The internet started as a military experiment in the USA but no-one realized that it would revolutionize life and communication in the 21st century. It was developed for the military, spread to universities and hospitals, and now it is the world wide web, which - with the help of wireless and satellite technologies will continue to expand for years to come.
How does the internet work? The Internet is made up of thousands of links to other web pages. For example if you click here you will be sent to Youtube. If you click here you will go to google and if you click here you will go to my Dad's website. Because nobody owns the Internet, managing it could be very difficult. To put a website on the internet you have to buy that part of the internet. For example if I wanted to make a website called: www.website.com, I would need to buy that 'domain' name.
