How has the internet impacted the world?

The internet is a vast resource which has impacted the world in a massive way - you can communicate with friends from different continents in seconds, store massive amounts of information without worrying about it being deleted and you can play online games or join 'community' websites like myspace and bebo which are used for socializing and making friends.

The internet has unmistakable advantages - it is the provider of hundreds of new jobs and it makes buisness life alot easier. communication, entertainment, information resources, online shopping... The list is endless.

With the ability to do all this, the internet is obviously a positive resource - but it isn't flawless.

  • Fraudulent websites

  • This involves the theft of personal details or interception of bank details.
An example of this is the Westpac 'look alike' fraud

  • Viruses

  • A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer without permission or knowledge of the user. These viruses will usually harm your computer in some way - slowing it down or deleting files.

Other concerns about the internet are that know one owns it - meaning that anyone can post anything on it. The internet has become the home of political propaganda, racism, pornography and other controversial or illegal material.

So the World Wide Web has negative effects but the positive definitely out weighs them.

The Internet is used by over 1 billion people world-wide - 400 million of those coming from Asia alone:

There is an approximate total of 1,114,274,426 people using the internet world-wide.

The internet has both negative and positive effects on the world, but it is still an amazing technological break through that revolutionises the way we live, work and communicate.
